This solved the issue, thanks. Can I suggest adding a note to the settings screen to help others? Also, for anyone else reading this thread, the fix is about login behaviour. If you test this by quitting USBClean and then launching it again (as I initially did), the window will still open in that case. It seems to specifically stop the window when the app launches at login (which is fine). I also found that, by uninstalling USBClean and then reinstalling it, it no longer shows under the 'background' section of the Login Items in System Settings.

    Hi Anne,

Ill look into adding support for ignoring certain drives (perhaps something like the Spotlight ignore list?). Initially USBclean only displayed memory sticks, but I had requests to add to support more types...

    thanks for the feedback

Now this is interesting - USBclean has no problem removing the dot-underscore files on the same USB drives/SD cards using my other Mac which is running macOS Sequoia 15.1 (not the 15.2 public beta). So maybe it's worth you testing USBclean against the betas for 15.2?

I'm surprised that you're unfamiliar with such a long-established competing product. I provided a link to the BlueHarvest main page above, in lieu of copy-and-pasting a bunch of its explanatory content into this post. Perhaps you could take a moment to click that link and check it out? I would think that any differences would stand out to you immediately.

    Woah,
If you have a lot of folders , I guess it could take that long to clean them all. Especially if it’s a spinning HDD.

On Mojave, .Spotlight-V100 files can't be removed unless you give USBclean this extra access. Im not sure why these files are protected now, but the only way they can be removed is by giving USBclean this extra access.

If you don't need to remove them, USBclean will still function just fine.
