Switching between App Store and regular version

I've had a regular license of versions 5 and 6 for several years and just bought the App Store version in the just-announced sale. Happy to support continued development of a very useful app. (Also, the regular version has had trouble auto-updating on my macOS Monterey system lately, and it created many folders for all the update attempts. Hopefully the App Store version will auto-update without problem.)
In any case, is there a recommended procedure for switching from the regular version to the App Store version while preserving settings? Many thanks in advance.

You only need to move the trial version to the trash. No other steps are needed to switch. This will preserve all your favourites, and settings.
