Cookies are being deleted despite website being in Favorites

I am using the Chromium-based browser ARC. In Cookies 7.0.7, I have added whatsapp.com to my favorites so that cookies don't get deleted when I close the browser. With automatic removal enabled, if I restart the browser, I am logged out of whatsapp.com. If I disable automatic removal and restart the browser, then I am not logged out of whatsapp.com.

Take a look through the cookies listed under WhatsApp (in Cookie) and see if you have any RED colored tracking cookies.

If so, try whitelisted them:

Right click(control click) on the RED cookie
select Add to whitelist from the contextual menu

You may need to do this to more than one cookie to stay logged in

Hey Russell, I don't see any RED tracking cookies. There's only one IndexedDB cookie for whatsapp.com. Here's a screenshot:

Try disabling cache removal and see if that helps

I tried, but it didn't make any changes. I also tried disabling Tracking cookie removal individually, but that didn't help either. Only when I completely disable automatic removal does it work!

Strange perhaps the login details are stored under another domain?

Try removing all non favorites. Close all tabs except for WhatsApp. Then login, and see what new cookies are stored.

Strange indeed! When I uncheck all the data removal options (https://i.imgur.com/5fEoy1K.png) and restart Arc, I get logged out. Only when I pause automatic removal do I not get logged out! I can't close Favorite or Pinned tabs in Arc (I think they get loaded in the background).

That’s odd, cookie shouldn’t touch any data if it’s not configured to remove any thing.

I’ll take a look at my code, just to make sure there’s nothing being wrongly removed

I made some adjustments to my removal code - so if something was slipping through before, it shouldn't be now.
could you try the latest Beta build and let me know if you still see the same issue:

you can also update to the Beta build from the Updates tab in Cookie Settings (if you are running the version from my store)

I just tried with 7.0.7.6 and I'm still getting logged out of Whatsapp! Don't know if it's meaningful, but when I visited the "Unwanted data" tab in Cookie, the first 3 checkboxes had blue minuses, so I changed them to ticks.

I just tried with Safari and I'm not experiencing the problem with Safari, so it really is tied to Arc (which is Chromium based). Furthermore, whatsapp.com under Safari shows 169 cookies whilst there's just one cookie under Arc!

Do you have a timer configured in Cookie?
If so you will need to also disable that

I did a whole new series of tests with version beta 7.0.7.6. I first unchecked all the "Unwanted data" and all the "Removal options". I restarted Arc and remained logged in. Then I checked the removal option "On Browser quit". I restarted Arc and remained logged in (this was different to what I experienced before!). Then I checked "Tracking cookies" under "Unwanted data" and restarted Arc. I remained logged in. Then I checked "Cache" and restarted Arc. I remained logged in. Then I checked "Non-favorites" and restarted Arc. I was logged out. This is where I noticed that a cookie "leveldb" had been added, but not under whatsapp.com. I checked this cookie to add it to my favorites and restarted Arc. I remained logged in.
