Cookie 5 (Open at login and hide)

I have been happily using Privatus for a while and have therefore been thinking of upgrading to Cookie 5.
I downloaded the trial version of Cookie today, but—even though I've ticked both "open Cookie at login" and "and hide"—the app does not start up at login.
On the other hand, if I start it manually—or put it into "login items" via "system preferences"—the app window opens and won't go away without manual intervention (i.e., not hidden).
Is there some way to fix this? It's a dealbreaker for me.

I'm disappointed not to have had a reply; obviously the developer is not interested. In any case, my trial period has come to an end, so I have given up on Cookie 5.
