I may have fixed it by removing ~/Library/Containers/com.sweetpproductions.Cookie5
and then setting up all over again. (I wish I had figured out how to export my favourites first - I hadn't spotted the contextual menu item!) We'll see.

Hmm. Not successful after all. Unwanted data now shows up in the menubar item for Cookie 5, but removing it results in it becoming greyed out in that item, but it still shows a number in brackets afterwards indicating how many items are still present. If I open the Cookie 5 window and use the Remove Unwanted Data button at the bottom, the unchecked items do not disappear (they are not browser extensions). If I highlight one of the unchecked items, and click on Remove, it remains unchanged. Once again, I do have Full Disk Access granted to Cookie 5, and have even gone to System prefs, removed Cookie 5, and dragged it back into that pane from the Applications folder. Something just isn't working!

Another piece of the puzzle falls into place: going to the Removal pane of Cookie 5 and selecting not just Tracking Cookies and Non-Favorites, but also Cache, Webpage Previews, Form Values, Downloads, Website Preferences, and Other Search Engines allows the greyed out non-favorites to be removed. Presumably they were in the Cache for the most part. Now to find out if I can finally stop nationalpost.com from tracking me!

This is still messed up! I have refreshed Firefox and slowly set it all up again. Done another delete of the ~/Library/Containers/com.sweetpproductions.Cookie5 folder (this time exporting and re-importing my favorites). It seems to be working with Safari, Vivaldi and Brave, but with Firefox no new unwanted data shows up in the menubar dropdown (no bold text, no numbers in the brackets after data type), and the Cookie 5 window shows all my selected favorites greyed out. None are browser extensions. Some have the number 2 in brackets after them) but on clicking on the reveal triangle each with a number says it contains one cookie and one generic data file. A couple of hours of browsing has resulted in no change to this list. Yes, I've moved Cookie 5 into the Full Disk Access pane a couple of times by dragging from the Apps folder, but no change. What's up?

@chrism what are your FireFox Privacy & Security preferences?

            I have:
            FireFox will: Remember History

and the timer disabled for Firefox in Cookie.
and I have no issues showing Firefox cookie data (on MacOS Mojave 10.14.6)

@SweetP I also have Firefox Privacy and Security set to 'Remember History' but I do have the timer set to 10 minutes for Cookie to remove Firefox unwanted data. Is this a problem?

I would try disabling the timer, as it can cause corruption. especially since Firefox changed over to the new Quantum engine

@SweetP Thanks for the suggestion. I've changed it to 'When computer wakes from sleep' and will now see if any new cookies show up in the Cookie window.

Half an hour of browsing and the Cookie window for Firefox hasn't changed at all; no new cookies.

@SweetP I just created a new profile in Firefox and it didn't help. Still no changes in the Cookie window. I've also cleared all cookies and the cache in Firefox, but the Cookie window still shows the same greyed out favorites, some with a number after the name. Here's a screenshot with some of the 'reveal' triangles clicked:

@SweetP Still no new cookies showing up in Cookie. Nor after a restart. And just for fun, I've had to use Safari to add this as Firefox refuses to let me log in here ("Login Unsuccessful
We were unable to log you in, likely due to an expired session. Please try again")

Later: cleared the cache, now it works and I can log in.
