Heres a couple things to check:
Make sure your Removal settings are active, and Cookie is Enabled for Automatic removals. Look on the Removal >> Removal Options tab - Cookie will show Pause Automatic Removals if it is active - press the button to enable if it shows "Enable Automatic Removals"

Cookie doesn't display "session cookies" either - which can be a cause for discrepancies. Session cookies are cleared automatically by the browser when you restart the browser.

what are your Privacy settings in Firefox?
You should use Firefox will Remember History
Or if using custom settings Keep until they expire

Thanks, Russell. That was the issue, indeed. Somehow i suspected something like this, but i had forgotten this easy shortcut to open preferences.

Thanks for your speedy response Russell

Restarted my MacBook and tried again (app store update). This time I was asked for my iCloud credentials/password when attempting the update, and hey presto, update worked perfectly 😉

    to be honest,
Im not sure where Sparkle stores the DMG...
Cookie is running the zorgiepoo Sandboxed fork of Sparkle:

the easiest way would be to disable the timer
    remove all non favorites
login to xmarks (or open it - im not sure if its an extension or not?)
then see which new cookies are stored in Cookie - and select them as favorites

there may also be tracking cookies, if there are any RED coloured cookies included in the favourite:

you will also need to whitelist that you do that by selecting the RED cookie, and right-clicking (control-click) * to bring up the contextual menu then select "Add to Whitelist"

Update to my question above: I just read, in answer to another thread, "click on the menu item "Enable Automatic Removal""

I am guessing my problem is I have not clicked on that. The Cookie icon is black. When I click on it, I do not see that choice, either in the dropdown list or in Preferences. In the dropdown list, there is "Clean Now". That sounds like a manual way to clear cookies?

What you need to do is open preferences using the key combo,
    COMMAND + ,
Then on the “Advanced” tab UNCHECK “Run Cookie in the background”

The cookie discrepancy will just be because all cookies for each browser are completely sandboxed and specific to each browser. So you need to visit all the sites you wish to favorite in each browser.

    That’s strange,
Are you sure your settings for removal are active in Opera?

If you click the Opera icon and then look on the removal tab to make sure your removal settings are active there.

Another thing to look out for is that Cookie may be globally disabled. If you have cookie in the menu bar it will have an outline of the icon rather than the solid icon. You can click the menu and select “Enable Automatic Removals”

    Hey!

I experienced similar problems with my Google accounts - German (Maps) and English (Mail).

To whitelist the NID did not work for me.
I tried a lot of different combinations and finally it did work for me best and with minimal whitelisting as you can see on my attached screenshot (blue=whitelisted).

    Hope this helps!

    Peace

    Flo

    ok,
my apologies, some users lost their favourites in the upgrade to 5.6 (it looks as though this affected you)

what you need to do, is disable any timers you may have running.
then visit the sites you need to favourite, so you can reselect them.

once you have all your sites reconfigured, you can re-enable any timers you had.
