No it's not a Trial version.
I bought it from the MacStore.

I went back to version 4 it seems to work on El Capitan

Thank you, that satisfies my curiosity. I don't blame you for moving on to a new version, which I'll upgrade to when I move up to El Cap.

I figured it had something to do with a change in the Mac OS. One of the things that I find crazy about "OS X" (again, neither here nor there.. just whining)  :@  😄 is that they have made a ton of major changes that should have warranted a new version the OS. For example, the move to Intel should have moved OS X up to OS XI (Eleven), and so on. You doing a re-write of Cookie's code warrants a version change (rather than an incremental version update to Cookie 4). When Apple issues an update of OS X, it's hard to tell if it's a just a few tweaks here and there, or they've thrown the baby out with the bathwater.

Anyway, thanks for responding, and thanks for putting up with my off-topic whining about Apple.  😛

  • How to uninstall Cookie 5

Thanks for this Russell. I did a search with Find Any File and noted quite a few other bits and pieces that referenced Cookie 5 so why would they not be a significant part of an uninstall?

The reason I was looking to uninstall is that ever since I started running Cookie 5 some cookies I mark as favourites randomly lose track. One particular set of cookies have to do with my banking login that saves my bank card number and the security connection between my bank login and my computer. I never had this issue when using any previous version of Cookie.

I was most curious to reinstall version 4.5.4 and see if the same behaviour occurs. At least then it would be a safe assumption that my bank has changed something that is interfering with the saving of the bank's cookies. If version 4.5.4 continues to act as reliably as it did previously then it would seem Cookie 5 is acting in a different manner where it fails to reliably maintain the cookies I favourited for my bank.

    thats odd?
normally a grey cookie indicates that it is not on disk, but that doesn't look like whats happening here.

Ill have a play with Chrome, and see if I can replicate this.

I need to take a look at sandboxing bookmarks....
    If it happens again,
You can try resetting the sandbox permissions on the advanced preferences tab.
Then back in the main window:
Right click on each browser and disable
Then enable one at a time, and go through the permissions dialogue agsin.....

    Grrrr sandbox....

    Russell,

I had 4.5.4 in Utilities (since Cookie is a utility) but then put 5 in Apps.  (I really followed the upgrade instructions to a "t").

If I remove those other file locations you mentioned, are they used by Cookie 5? > Thanks.

    Darrel

not at all, Cookie5 uses a totally different location.

This sounds like an issue with iCloud Mike, with either your Mac, or an iDevice.

I've just released 5.0.3 on my site.
make sure you're using that version by using the updates tab in Preferences. (5.0.2 is still a little flakey)
